Blogtoberfest : My Creative Space

Yesterday and today we are being treated to stunning Spring days.

That has nothing to do with My Creative Space, it just needs to be acknowledged.
Christmas creations were again on my sewing table.

I came into possession of another fabulous, but slightly damaged Christmas tablecloth (thanks Mum).

This week, along with stockings, bunting was made.

I love bunting and Christmas, so this bunting is making me all sorts of happy.

As Mum provided the fabric, she has quite rightly claimed one string of bunting.

One string is coming with me to market.

And......the last string of bunting could be making it's way to your house !

Yes, I'm hosting a giveaway as part of Blogtoberfest.

Now, I know that not everyone (actually anyone over the age of 5)
gets as excited about Christmas as I do....but I'd love to know what does excite you about Christmas.

Leave me a comment here telling me what ritual, tradition, food, gift, movie, carol that you love.

A winner will be chosen at random on October 25th and I will send the bunting to the lucky winner.

So, go on, indulge me.

Tell me what you love about Christmas.......

Happy Thursday,

  1. I'm with you, I love Christmas! I love the traditions, the lights, lots of lights! I love the excitement of little people and seeing my family all together. I love all the end of year celebrations, the winding up of loose ends ready for the summer break. I could go on..
Your bunting looks great against that wall..x

  2. I love Christmas! And I love this bunting! Tree and decoration go up the first weekend in December. I love that our family, blood related and chosen, all come together for a champagne brunch, so much talking over the top of each other, sharing our joy from the day and stories from throughout the year. Then we have a family traditional turkey/ham dinner. Christmas carols are playing, loud, excited chatter fills the room. Boxing day has all the 'dad's' in front of the tv watching the Sydney to Hobart. Ahhh, what a great time!

  4. Love your bunting and love this Australian Carol,

Out on the plains the brolgas are dancing,
lifting their feet like proud horses prancing,
up to the sun the woodlarks go winging,
faint in the dawn light echos are ringing,
oranna, oranna, oranna to Christmas Day.

Down where the tree-ferns grow by the river,
There where the waters sparkle and quiver,
Deep in the gullies Bell-birds are chiming,
Softly and sweetly their lyric notes rhyming
orana, orana, orana, to Christmas Day.

Friar-birds sip the nectar of flowers,
    Currawongs chant in wattle-tree bowers,
In the blue ranges Lorikeets calling,
Carols of bushlands rising and falling,
orana, orana, orana to Christmas Day.

  9. For me the magic of Christmas lies in the Plum Duff. Its really the only tradition we really followed with regards to Christmas growing up - mum would make the pudding on Christmas eve and everyone in the house at the time would have to stir the batter and make a wish. Then when it was served it would be passed to left of the server (usually mum) and then keep getting passed to the left around the table until it reached the person on her right who claimed it. Each bowl is delivered this way. Its a tradition I have kept going now with a family of mine!

  10. For me the magic of Christmas resides in Plum Duff! Growing up the only real Christmas traditions we had centered around the pudding! Mum would make the batter on Christmas eve and everyone in the house would have to stir it and make a wish. Then when it was served the next day as each place is dished at it is passed to the server's left and continues around the table until it reached the person to the server's right who then claims it. Each bowl is delivered the same way until every one has one. I've tried to keep it going now I've got a family of my own :)

  12. The tablecloth has made fabulous bunting!
I'm less of a christmas person now that the kids have left home, but I love Christmas pudding and custard, fruit mince tarts and watching Love Actually!...oh, and wrapping presents.

  14. That is lovely bunting - my fingers are crossed!! I love the food traditions that our family has during Christmas. We make an Icelandic crepe with sugar sprinkled on it and rolled into tube like shapes - yum. We also have fruit cocktail from a tin, drained, and mixed in with whipped whipping cream - my husband thinks we are mad!! hehehe

  15. Beautiful bunting. Thank you for the chance to win.

3 young kids in the house so Christmas is all about building traditions with them, as I didn't really have any growing up. Making gingerbread cookies, going to the local Christmas parade, decorating the tree. All the usual. But my personal fave is the night that we all pile into the car, have a gelati as it gets dark then drive around looking at the Christmas lights.

  16. Oh Christmas, I love the twinkling lights and we have to have homemade mince pies.
And definitely watching Love Actually while wrapping last minute presents on Christmas Eve.

  18. I don't know how I'd tell you just one thing I love! I LOVE Christmas! I LOVE it when shops start playing the christmas carols in October, I love trifle and ham (especially when I'm not pregnant and can eat it). I love the decorations, I love making gifts, buying gifts, wrapping gifts. I love getting the children excited about Santa and getting them to write him a nice letter and post it...oh I could go on. In fact I might need to steal this idea and get people to tell me what they love because then I can write a much much longer post and not fill up too much of your comments here!

  19. I love hanging my old woollen socks up above the gas heater ready for Santa, using flour to trace the outline of his feet on the carpet and having kids to wake up to in the morning!
