To my beautiful friend.....

Yesterday I attended a beautiful afternoon tea.
The food was delicious.
The tea and coffee warm and plentiful.
The thrifted cups divine.
The conversation loud
and most importantly, the generosity overflowing.

This was an afternoon to raise much needed funds for the Cancer Council.
It was a local,  determined and emotional chapter of this years' World's Biggest Morning Tea.

It was a wonderful afternoon,
graciously, generously and beautiful  organised and baked by Cathie from Melbourne Epicure.
Cathie has been personally effected by this horrible disease.
It inspires her to create such an event.

It also inspires her many talented and generous friends to donate for the raffle :

Amongst the talented women donating were CurlyPops, Spunkerella  and from above,
iPad cover from DearUniverse00
Patchwork cushion from PatchworkHill
and an amazing doll, Miss Polly I believe, from a little vintage.

It was a heartfelt and emotional afternoon  for many, because unfortunately cancer touches us all......

Earlier this year, almost five months ago,
I lost a dear and beautiful friend.
I wore a sparkly purple scarf to remind me of her.
Every sweet morsel reminded me of her.
The kids laughing and enjoying themselves reminded me of her.
The generosity reminded me of her.

So Nik, I drank coffee, ate cake and chatted for you.
I miss you every day.
I can't delete your messages from my phone.
And every Thursday I walk into that room expecting to see you there.
But you're not there.
I hope we find a cure soon.
So no more husbands, parents, children and friends have to say goodbye to a
wife, daughter, mum and friend.

I miss you Nik.

  1. ohhh Dee, you have me crying non stop here. I feel your pain and even though yours is still fresh and it will always be painful, I assure you that the pain then turns to some happier thoughts and memories and the tears aren't as painful.
it's hard to believe, but hopefully in a few years time when we are sipping tea at another afternoon tea we can remember those who left us suddenly and think of nice things and not the illness anymore.
    much love to you ♥
